"Through Meditation we can train our minds in such a way that its negative qualities are abandoned and the positive qualities are generated and enhanced.

The importance of this practice arises from the fundamental fact that each and every one of us desires happiness and does not want misery.  These are natural human characteristics that do not need to be created afresh Happiness or sorrow in life depend largely on the state of our minds."
(excerpted from the foreword by H.H.Dalai Lama)

We  discovered this text in the process of writing our own continuing education course on the use of meditation as a therapeutic technique.  We were so impressed by its presentation that we chose to offer this text as a course unto itself.  The presentation of material is highly readable and accessible to those totally unfamiliar with meditation while still offering deep wisdom to the more seasoned practitioner.
